Intrinsic Motivation in Kohn's Article. Katya Bacani, Ryan Floyd, Aly Zuasola, Isaac
Kohn describes intrinsic motivation by stating that when children are invited to ask questions, it inspires them to find answers which leads to enthusiasm. In this process, as the students are asking and answering their questions, teachers are able to encourage and aid in finding what the students are interested in. Duckworth claims, "by inviting their questions, we unleash the power of intrinsic motivation because all of us tend to develop more enthusiasm for, and ultimately become more skillful at, pursuing questions about which we’re genuinely curious than those handed to us by someone else." (Whose Asking, par. 2) Through this quotation it is clear that with intrinsic motivation comes a student and teacher participation. In order to be inspired, it is essential that the student is always thinking of ways to question in order to in turn, find the answer to their curiosity. To conclude, Kohn utilizes a dependent teacher student interaction in order to inspire intrinsic motivation.
