Between the World and Me “But race is the child of racism, not the father.” (7) The idea or definition of race is not clear since people do not understand its origins and it is difficult to find real ways to address it. “Through the windshield I saw the mark of these ghettos - the abundance of beauty shops, churches, liquor stores, and crumbling housing - and I felt the old fear. Through the windshield I saw the rain coming down in sheets.” (152) Cotes doesn’t end the book on a positive note, reminding us of the unfair way blacks live and seems to hint towards the fact that it will not change. “so that America might justify itself, the story of a black body's destruction must begin with his or her error, real or imagined…” (96) He explains how each time a black american is shot or beaten America tends to look at his faults first. What he did to deserve what happened to him. He discusses that the police who beat them are not held accountable.

1 . What did you learn about the research process that was new to you? Of all the types of sources you found, from popular to scholarly to primary, which was most fruitful or interesting? For me the whole research process was new. I have never really done one before this. I found it to be very difficult, especially the formatting of the essay. I found my popular source to be most interesting, I think you will too!  2. What did you learn about the writing process of your partner in the Peer Draft workshop? How did their process and the way they put their ideas together differ from yours? (Even if you had no draft yet, how did your discussion with the other person teach you something? My peer did not have a draft yet, but it was interesting to discuss how she was going to structure her essay. As it always is. It gave me ideas and helped me to form mine as well. She was a lot more organized than I was in the beginning.  3. What is one part of your essay ...

How do the Homeless people of San Francisco have a negative or positive impact on the city and its people?
